چکیده

Cadmium (Cd) is one heavy metal which is toxic and can cause physiological disorder of plants. In the present experiment, effects of Sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a NO donor, on the phenotype, photosynthesis and oxidative stress of cucumber leaves were studied under Cd stress. Application of 100μM CdCl2 induced obvious chlorosis of cucumber leaves with lower pigment content and lower net photosynthetic rate (PN). Higher accumulations of H2O2 and thiobarbituric acidreactive substances (TBARS) were observed in Cd-treated cucumber leaves, which indicated Cd induced oxidative stress to cucumber leaves. Application of 100μM SNP reversed the chlorosis and lower PN induced by Cd treatment. Activities of reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging enzymes and antioxidant capacity expressed by α,α-diphenyl-β-picryllhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity, chelating activity of ferrous ions and hydroxyl radical (OH·) scavenging activity were significantly increased by SNP under Cd stress. On the contrary, the above effects of SNP were not observed after the application of potassium ferrocyanide which is an analog of SNP that does not release NO. Therefore, it could be concluded that the NO from SNP might account for the alleviating effect of Cd stress on cucumber plants.

Exogenous Nitric oxide (NO) induced oxidative stress and increased production of secondary metabolites in Catharanthus roseus Callus Cells

The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of exogenous nitric oxide on cellular response and production of secondary metabolites in Catharanthus roseus callus. The Cell suspension and callus of C. roseus were treated with sodium nitroprusside, then cell viability, morphology, the amount of H2O2, proline, lipid peroxidation, the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase and perox...

The effect of arsenic and sodium nitroprusside on the physiological responses and antioxidant enzymes activity of Isatis cappadocica

Arsenic (As) stress, through the creation of oxidative stress, can cause phytotoxicity (e.g. The decrease of growth and chlorophyll content) in plants. Nitric oxide (NO), by promotion of the antioxidant system, plays an important role in reducing heavy metal-induced oxidative stress. In this study, the role of exogenously applied sodium nitroprusside (SNP; a NO donor) on physiological responses...

Protective effect of exogenous nitric oxide on alleviation of oxidative damage induced by high salinity in rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings

To find the protective role of exogenous nitric oxide (NO) on salinity-stressed rice seedlings, a CRD-based factorial experiment with three replications was conducted in Agronomy Laboratory of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of Guilan, in 2012. The experimental design consisted of healthy and vigorous seedlings of two rice cultivars, Khazar and Goohar, the last already known as...

تأثیر نیتریک‌اکساید بر پاسخ های آنتی اکسیداتیو اسپندک (تیرۀ قیچیان) در محیط شور

In recent years, the involvement of nitric oxide (NO) in numerous physiological processes, particularly the mitigation of stress-induced negative effects on plants, has been clarified. Under salinity conditions, plants are subjected to a secondary oxidative stress.  The present work was designed to examine the exogenous application of nitric oxide (NO), in the form of its donor sodium nitr...

PROTECTIVE EFFECTS OF EXOGENOUS NITRIC OXIDE AGAINST LEAD TOXICITY IN LEMON BALM (Melissa officinalis L.)

This research investigated the effects of exogenous sodium nitroprusside (SNP) supplementation as nitric oxide (NO) on alleviating Pb-induced oxidative damage in lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.) plants. Pb (100, 300 and 500 μM) alone and in combination with SNP (100 and 200 μM) were given to hydroponically grown Melissa officinalis L. plants. The findings suggested that in Pbtreated plants, ...
